Decorating Challenge #1

O.k., here goes. My first question (and let’s start with a little one) is about the living room. Nester, if you’re out there, I queried you about this a while back. I loved your suggestions, but I’m still playing around with this room. We did some rearranging, and I’m not sure what to do with this one wall.

Living RoomO.k., so it’s not a perfect picture, but see the white armoire thingy? That houses the computer. I hide the ugly black office chair if we’re having people over. The t.v. situation is not ideal, but it will have to hang out for now. But what to do with the armoire area? Is that little grapevine wreath too country? Should I hang pictures on either side of the armoire? Above it? Do nothing? Here’s another shot of that room:

Living Room 2So if anyone stumbles upon this little baby blog, I want some ideas!

can you put the white computer cab between the white shelves where the sofa is and put your tv where the computer is currently and put the sofa floating across from the tv?

Maybe you could push all of your white shelves and computer thing together and make it look like one of those pottery barn $ystems!

I would also put the kids table and chairs on the rug and almost let it second as a coffee table for the sofa.

love that white dresser next to your front door!

Ok, here are my two cents worth. I would put some vintage suitcases or dark baskets (the shade of your hardwood floors) on top of that armoire. But nothing else. I wouldn’t even hang anything above it. I would shove all of your bookcases together and move your sofa out into the room, in front of the bookcases, leaving enough room to walk behind the sofa. It is kind of hard to tell the whole room layout, I would possibly even move your sofa facing the armoire and then put the two chairs angled back in towards the sofa for a nice conversation area? Just some thoughts, it is always hard to know for sure from a photo! I love that little white dresser, nester is right! Very cute!!!

Hello and welcome to the blog world! I’m no interior designer, but here are my thoughts. My first thought was to move all those book shelves around so that you create some kind of wall unit (pottery barn probably has some pictures of this). That will clear up some wall space where you already have the shelves. If you don’t want to move those around, what about a door like Nester has over her couch? I would also recommend a large, rectangular mirror over it. That helps open a room quite a bit. If you’re willing to make the move, I would work on re-arranging the shelves around it first. See how that looks. P.S. I would put the kids table on the rug, too. I look forward to seeing what you do. Good luck!
